HALMED participates in the SUTRA (Tomorrow) project – self-medication in pregnancy and lactation

A public health-educational project SUTRA (Tomorrow) - self-medication in pregnancy and lactation, organised by the Croatian Pharmaceutical Society, under the high auspices of the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices (HALMED) is taking place in the Republic of Croatia. One of the key missions of the project is to raise awareness among the both general public and health care professionals on the importance of educating pregnant and breast-feeding women about the risks and self-medication possibilities and positively influence to prevent side-effects through self-medication.

The project aims at ensuring an annual continuous education of pregnant women about self-medication during pregnancy and lactation, educate the health professional public about new scientific findings of self-medication during pregnancy and lactation and to sensibilise the public about the risks of non-rationale use of medicines and self-medication products during pregnancy and lactation, as well as the importance of educating pregnant and breast-feeding women.

This project meets the objectives of the HALMED’s public educational campaign aimed at informing patients and consumers that, apart from an information obtained from qualified health care professionals, they may gain additional information by reading the package leaflet and also actively involve themselves in the treatment and safety monitoring of medicinal products by reporting adverse reactions.
